Guide: Basic User's Getting Started with Fill In Board

Welcome, and thank you for joining Fill In Board! This guide will walk you through the basics to help you get started quickly and efficiently.

Signing Up & Logging In

If you haven’t created an account yet, you can sign up for free on our Sign-Up Page. Fill In Board is completely free, built to support emergency responders—especially volunteers—by providing powerful coordination tools.

Launching the Generic Town Board

After signing in, you'll land on the Boards page. A default board named "Generic Town" is already set up for you to test. Click the red "Launch" button to start.

Exploring the Toolbar

Once inside, you'll see the toolbar at the top center of the screen. This toolbar contains both basic and admin features.

The 'X' button on the far right closes the board. Your board remains active for one hour after the last user leaves.

Basic Toolbar Features

• Messages – Opens the chatbox to communicate with others.
• Users – Displays active users on your board.
• Zoom In – Magnifies the board.
• Zoom Out – Zooms out for a wider view.
• Pan/Move – Enables map movement; click again to lock it in place.

Admin Toolbar Features

If you're an admin, you'll have access to additional tools:

• Add Unit – Opens a dialog to add new units.
• Save Deployments – Saves the board's current state.
• Invite Users – Lets you invite others to join.

Interacting with Units

You'll start with 9 units, color-coded as follows:

• Rescue 1 to 3 – Blue
• Engine 1 & Engine 2 – Black
• Truck 1 & Truck 2 – Red
• Car 1 & Battalion 1 – Green

You can click and drag units to move them, or double-click to rotate them. Right-clicking a unit opens the properties menu:

• Properties – Edit unit name and type.
• Toggle – Rotates the unit (same as double-clicking).
• Delete – Removes the unit from the board.
